
This course is designed to provide new and prospective firearm owners with the fundamental knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary for the safe and responsible use of firearms.
Instruction includes:
- The rules of firearm safety
- Ammunition components, identification, and proper selection
- Handgun selection and safe storage methods
- Proper firearm handling and operation
- Shooting fundamentals and marksmanship principles
- Two-handed shooting positions and grip techniques
- Firearm inspection and routine maintenance
- Shooting range rules and safe conduct
This course emphasizes safety, responsible firearm ownership, and the development of sound shooting fundamentals through structured classroom instruction and supervised live-fire exercises.
No previous experience is required.
Equipment List
- Quality functional semi-automatic pistol (rental firearm is available)
- Estimated round count: 150 rounds
- 3 magazines minimum
- Optional, loading devices
- Hip-mounted holster or belt-mounted holster
- Magazine pouch(es)
- Sturdy belt at least 1.5″ wide
- Footwear suitable for rapid movement and turning
- Clothing suitable for training in any weather, pants must have belt loops
- Wraparound eyewear, polycarbonate lenses or non-shattering prescription glasses
- Earmuffs and earplugs
- Ammunition is available at the range for an additional fee.
